5 Reasons You Need an Adjustable Base

Getting a good night’s sleep is vital to being your healthiest, happiest self. And yet, it can be a big challenge for some of us. As sleep disorders, stress, and chronic sleep deprivation are on the rise, clocking in a full eight hours can become a struggle. If you are looking for ways to increase the quality of your sleep, you might want to consider upgrading your mattress. And while you're at it, you might even consider upgrading to an adjustable base to for the most supportive and comfortable sleep possible.  Considering the upgrade? Here’s everything you need to know.

First of all, what is an adjustable base? Essentially, it's a movable foundation that can shift the positioning of your head and legs. They allow for even more comfort and support than a regular bed, particularly for sleepers that have trouble lying comfortably.

The idea of adjustable beds have been around since ancient times, and once you learn more about them, it's not hard to see why. The first modern adjustable bed was created in the early 20th century by the surgeon Wllis Gatch, as a way to make life easier for hospital patients. They’ve grown increasingly sleek, sophisticated and easy to use over the years, and contrary to what some may think, they’re not just for the hospital. In fact, they’re quickly becoming one of the most common bedroom accessories.

With an adjustable base, you can shift your mattress into lots of different positions that can help with pain, sleep issues, and even simple comfort preferences. Curious if an adjustable base is the upgrade you’re looking for? Here are 5 reasons you need one in your life:

1. Adjustable bases expand the functionality of your bed. With an adjustable base, you can turn your bed into an ultra-comfortable reclining seat for reading, chatting with your partner, and watching movies.

2. Adjustable bases can help alleviate snoring. If you (or your partner!) tend to snore while you snooze, consider getting an adjustable base. When you lay on your back, the force of gravity causes your tongue slides down the back of your airway, causing it to narrow and making you more likely to snore. However, elevating your neck even just a little bit can help alleviate this, allow you and your loved ones to get a quiet and peaceful night's rest.

3. Adjustable bases can help ease acid reflux. Gastroesophageal reflux can cause pain and discomfort that makes good sleep hard to come by. Again, lying completely flat can worsen this condition. When you're completely reclined, the content of your stomach can more easily flow into your esophagus, causing discomfort. Tilting your mattress upward is a simple and highly effective solution.

4. Adjustable bases can help with back pain. Chronic back pain is a common cause of concern for adults, especially when it comes to sleep. If you suffer from back pain, an adjustable base may help provide relief. Slightly elevating your legs can shift your body into proper alignment and relieve pressure on your pain points.

5. Adjustable bases increase your independence. They’re a fantastic option for those who are older or who are dealing with a disability, illness, or other mobility restrictions. They make it much easier to get in and out of bed on your own, to switch up your position in bed for a variety of activities, and to just plain get comfortable.
